US Department of Commerce Anti-dumping Investigation on Chassis From Mexico, Vietnam, and Thailand
March 4, 2025
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) will soon initiate an anti-dumping (AD) investigation into several Vietnam producers and exporters of chassis and parts thereof. They are targeted as part of a submission by domestic US producers who allege that chassis from Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam are being dumped in the US, i.e. that the export price of the products is lower than the normal value of the like product in their domestic market. The DOC will be collecting information from cooperating producers or exporters (cooperating may result in lower individual Anti-Dumping duties). Under the WTO AD Agreement, the US has to respect various rules on the procedure and the way of calculating the AD. Once an AD duty is in place, it often stays in place for decades. The chassis from Mexico seems to be the main target given the volumes (which exceeds the imports from Vietnam many times over), but Vietnam may be swept into the same effort. The outcomes from the investigation are expected in August (preliminary determination) and in October (definitive).
